Tasmania. It's a place.
MONA. It's a museum. In Tasmania. That’s a place.
David Walsh, founder of Mona Museum, openly hates advertising. So when Google called up and said, “Hey BMF Advertising. You do advertising. How about making advertising for a museum that hates advertising? You'll get a free trip to Tasmania and $12.5k of free advertising on YouTube…” We said yep.
But we didn’t make an ad for MONA. We made an ad for someone else. Someone who actually likes advertising: Flippers.
The ad went live on YouTube. A few hours passed. Then, somehow, it was the top video on Reddit. Worldwide.
And 88% of those who watched it up-voted it.
The media chose to write about Flippers, instead of education. Or the economy.
Flippers’ sales went up by a flippin’ 16%.
And there was a 20% increase in tourists visiting Tasmania. All part of our plan.
So, how do you do advertising for someone who hates advertising?
You don't. You do it for someone who loves it.
Flippppers. Like slippers but with a fluh.
